Talc embolism way cause a sudden blockage of arterioles and small arteries.  Emboli derived from small particles of  talc may be identified within the blood vessels of the retina even when they are too small to cause significant ishemia. Intravenously administered illicit drugs contaminated with talc occasionally accumulate in choroidal and other ocular blood vessels and they sometimes elict granulomas.
