Copper-rich foreign bodies incite a prominent sterile purulent acute intraocular inflammatory reaction [endophthalmitis]. Brass or bronze alloys that contain 70-90% copper can produce chalcosis, which is characterized by the deposition of copper in Descemet membrane and the lens capsule.
